Tips for managers

1. Which club gives the fastest rise?

An underdog gives the fastest rise, because meeting its target, staying off the bottom, earns about 40% more reputation than a mid-table side gets. A big club must win the league to impress anyone.

2. What should I do with pre-season signings?

Fill the weakest spot in your XI. Open the Tactics page first: the team profile shows each area from top-order batting to death bowling, with your strengths and weaknesses, so you know whether you need a finisher, a new-ball bowler or a spinner.

3. How do I use the pitch report?

Match your XI to it. On a pitch with grip for spin, play an extra spinner and batters who handle turn. On a fast, bouncy pitch, pick your quickest bowlers. The pre-match head-to-head shows where you are stronger than the opposition.

4. Which training focus is best?

Train for the next competition. Focused skills develop 45% faster, so switch to batting before a run of flat pitches and to bowling or fielding before knockouts. Put personal coaching on your youngest players, because they improve fastest.

5. How do I keep the board happy?

Win, keep the dressing room content and stay inside the wage budget. Results are 40% of your standing, but overspending costs confidence every month and a sulking star drags the dressing room down.

6. Should I make bold promises in press conferences?

Only when you are confident. A bold promise wins fans now, but failing to deliver costs one and a half times what it gained. Backing the dressing room is the safe answer after a loss.

Tips for live matches

7. When should I change the batting approach?

Go aggressive when the required rate climbs above about eight an over in a T20 chase, or in the last five overs of any innings with wickets in hand. Drop to cautious after two quick wickets.

8. Who should bowl the death overs?

Your best yorker bowler. Save one or two of his overs for the end, and use the bowler picker during the match so the captain does not bowl him out early.

9. When should I use a review?

Review LBWs when the ball looked full and straight, and catches behind when you heard a clear edge. Keep at least one review for the last overs, and remember that an umpire’s call does not cost you the review.

10. How do I bat in player mode?

Read the delivery before you pick a card. Never leave a ball on the stumps, block the good balls early in your innings, drive the full ones and cut the short and wide ones. Then read the field note: go aerial only when it says No one back there, and work the ball into the gap when the ring is set. Push for the second run only when the risk bar is short.

Tips for player careers

11. What should I spend XP on first?

The two skills your role relies on most: technique and timing for batters, accuracy and pace or turn for bowlers. Skills cost double past your potential, so spread XP once you near it.

12. How do I get picked by the state side?

Score consistently in the state league and watch the gap on the Selection race page. When you are close, the selectors invite you to a trial. Pick the drill that shows your strongest skill, and credit your team-mates in interviews so the dressing room backs you.
